So technically I didn’t take this photo, was taken by my wonderful husband for me, but i believe it is important for me to also be a part of our January so this is me.
Those who have known me when I was growing up will know that I was never one of those sporty girls, not even close. I struggled to catch a ball, I was always the last to finish the running races at school, would do anything to get out of doing cross country running, the word sport was mentioned and I would run and hide. Over the past years though I started exercising, first with walking then adding in some running and then looking for something more, I have developed a new love for Cross Fit.
I remember when I first started. I could barely lift a bar, I would only be able to use the 4kg kettle bell – my dear husband nicknamed it the paper weight. It’s taken a lot of hard work, determination and commitment but I am slowly getting there. This past couple of weeks have been a lot of first for me…. I can finally use the 16kg kettle bell, I have increased my front squat to 37.5kg’s, I lifted a tyre over my head and was able to do lungs around the car park, and I did my first double under and then working with my husband at home I dead-lifted 60kgs!!! I would never have thought back when I started, when I was dead-lifting the 16kg bar and that was a struggle, that I would ever be able to do any of this.
When we open ourselves to try new things, to dreaming, to believe in ourselves and work hard, amazing things can happen.
